The NORM Group is interested in the quality of the Earth’s environment with reference to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials.
The NORM Group is in constant pursuit of detecting naturally occurring radioactive materials even at their lowest levels, thereby helping public awareness for better living.

VISION
Our vision is the long-term management of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) in building energy efficient new homes in a manner that safeguards people and respects the environment, now and in the future.
MISSION
The purpose of The NORM Group is to develop a sensible approach for the long-term management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) that is socially acceptable, technically sound, environmentally responsible and economically feasible in the context of creating healthy indoor environments in energy efficient new homes.
VALUES
The fundamental beliefs that will guide us in our organization towards our mission include, but not limited to:
Integrity
We will conduct ourselves with openness, honesty and respect for all persons and organizations with whom we interact for achieving our vision of the NORM Group.
Excellence
We will pursue the best knowledge, understanding and innovative thinking in our analysis of NORM management in the construction of energy efficient homes, engagement processes and decision-making.
Engagement
We will seek the participation of all communities of interest, which focus on NORM, and be responsive to a diversity of views and perspectives in the implementation towards energy efficiency in homes. We will communicate and consult actively, in order to promote thoughtful reflection and to facilitate a constructive dialogue.
Accountability
We will be fully responsible for the wise, prudent and efficient management of resources for the management of NORM to achieve highest energy efficiency in homes, and be accountable for all our actions.
PROJECTS
Radon Resistant New Construction(RRNC):
The first project we want to focus on is the Radon Resistant New Construction (RRNC) of Energy Efficient Homes (R2000).
Published research in peer reviewed scientific journals shows that radon levels in Energy Efficient Homes (EEH) tend to be the highest encountered in radon surveys. So, we want to focus on RRNC.
Accreditation Board:
The second project to be done simultaneously with the above is to assemble a self-regulating non-governmental accreditation board supported by the players in the new construction industry.
Our research shows that there is a paucity of building codes, certified trades and professionals in the construction industry across Canada in the NORM sector. The knowledge and expertise in the NORM sector are buried in various government reports, across several government departments, and private industrial vendors.
Teaching and Support Services:
The third project we envision in the context of the above two projects is to assemble teaching and training support services (TTSS) to promote the standards and regulations accepted by the community and identified and endorsed by the accreditation board supported by the players in the new construction industry.
Similar teaching and training support services are already well established in the oil and gas sector in Canada, in USA and around the world. Our goal is to organize similar services for RRNC-EEH.
Laboratories for accreditation, teaching and training support services
The fourth project we envision in the context of the above is to establish the required laboratories for accreditation, teaching and training support services (TTSS) to promote the standards and regulations accepted by the community and identified and endorsed by the accreditation board supported by the key players in the new construction industry.
These laboratories currently exist in the government organizations, the oil and gas sector, and at universities in Canada, in USA and around the world. Our goal is to organize similar services for RRNC-EEH in the commercial building industry for each province.
Radon Map of Canada
The fifth project we are already committed to is to develop the radon and radon potential map of Canada envisioned by the scientists at Health Canada.
We believe that this is the best opportunity there is for all the key players of the building industry to contribute to the Higher Quality Environment.
RUN FROM RADON
A public awareness project we are promoting to give an opportunity for the general public to participate in support of Lung Cancer groups.
We advocate “Higher Standards for Higher Quality Environment”. We encourage the implementation of Radon Resistant New Construction (RRNC) in Energy Efficient Homes (EEH).
